If you are planning to visit Durham, you must consider visiting Durham Cathedral which is considered one of the greatest cathedrals in today’s world. Every year in Durham Cathedral, there are more than one thousand routine services. They include everyday services of Morning and Evening Prayer (sung or said), Holy Communion, as well as prayers for justice and peace every week. In 2010 there were also about 150 special liturgical services and events bringing a lot of people from a variety of parts of the UK (and, certainly, the world) to share the Christian faith in many different ways.
Sometimes, there are just a few people attending the Holy Communion in one of the side chapels. However on Christmas Eve, there are thousands of people crowding the cathedral for the wonderful Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols!
The Sunday services are always sung by a visiting choir or Durham Cathedral Choir. Evensong is generally sung from Tuesday to Sunday.
